Ideal Visions: The Portrait Archive


The project began with a study of hair and styling bias, and subsequently found that young people often need to be what their parents expect them to be, like Barbie, claiming to be able to be anyone (actually anything positive and wonderful).

Who defines a positive and wonderful? Comments like these make us self-doubt and deny, constantly denying that we are different, and as we reach adulthood, we seal off our specialness to cater for the expectations of others.
